Veterans in Crisis

A Good Time for an
Excellent Cause

One of our favorite events of the year is our annual Golf Scramble for Veterans. We can not think of a better way to help raise money for local Veterans than with a day of Golf, comradery, and some friendly competition.

Veterans in Crisis aims to have a direct, visible impact on those who need immediate support. Since 2016, we have been providing ‘hand-ups’ to Veterans throughout 21 Northern Michigan and Eastern U.P. counties. ‘Hand-ups’ can be financial or service assistance for Veterans with unexpected needs that are not being met. We are a Veteran-led, 501(c)3 non-profit made up of Veterans, business owners and advocates for serving those who honorably served our country.

"Honor to the soldier and sailor everywhere, who bravely bears his country’s cause. Honor, also, to the citizen who cares for his brother in the field and serves, as he best can, the same cause."

Commonly Asked Questions

Vets in crisis receives funding from various sources throughout Northern Michigan and events held in Traverse City. We accept donations of all sizes from individuals and organizations. Additionally, we organize two primary fundraising events each year, Golfing for Vets and The Crosstown Hoops Classic. Media sponsors provide funding as well as help generate awareness and finally, we are connected with various businesses throughout Northern Michigan that provide In-Kind services for Veteran ‘hand-ups.’

We are volunteer-driven and veteran focused. Almost every dollar, currently 98%, goes directly towards service providers or is used to buy needed items like groceries, gas cards or firewood to help Veterans in

Vet assistance does not have to take forever. By the time people come to us the need has reached urgent status and we understand how important it is not only to resolve the financial burden, but to ease uncertainty. We are proud to arrange ‘hand-ups’ with a 24-hour turnaround time (although some larger needs may take a day or so longer). Our goal is to provide rapid response when it is needed most.

Northern Michigan Veterans will get a boost for emergency assistance thanks to a Biederman Family Foundation Grant. The Foundation today announced a $2,000 grant to the TC Patriot Game. Proceeds from the game this year support a local organization called Veterans In Crisis.

The game takes place during the annual football clash between Traverse City Central High School and Traverse City West Senior High School. The game is used to honor active duty military, Veterans, first responders and those from northern Michigan who have been killed in action while serving their country or community.

Money is raised to support a Veteran organization chosen by students from both schools. Donations come through sponsorships, grants and the sale of commemorative shirts.2019 T.C. Patriot Game Receives Grant

Thanks to donations from two community sponsors, organizers of this year’s TC Patriot Game hope to turn a $5,000 gift into $10,000 to help Veterans In Crisis. EXIT Realty and Brady’s Bar in Traverse City today pledged up to $5,000 if the community can match that amount in donations before the game.

“Last year the TC Patriot Game raised a record $16,000 that went to support area Veterans,” says EXIT Realty owner and TC Patriot Game Committee Member, Holly Hack. “This year we want to raise the bar and help even more Veterans, so the students at both schools set a goal of raising $25,000.”

Student Senators from both Traverse City Central High School and Traverse City West Senior High School selected Veterans In Crisis after interviewing five Veteran organizations.

Last year the organization distributed over $18,000 to Veterans in need. “The Student Senators were impressed with the ability of Veterans In Crisis to reach out to a variety of Veterans with a diversity of need,” says TC Patriot Game President, Scott Herzberg. Herzberg noted the Senators struggled making their decision because all five presenting organizations demonstrated a dramatic impact in helping area Veterans.
